Game Rules
Mar. 29th, 2015 04:35 pmThe most important rule: DO UNTO OTHERS AS YOU WOULD HAVE DONE UNTO YOU.
Be respectful and courteous to one another. ICly your character can be as much of an ass as he or she wants, but OOCly remember that jerkiness is not approved and can get you booted.
So don't be a jerk. This should go without saying. Don't be threatening, insulting, and/or harassing the other players. It's not 'just a joke' when it hurts someone. If someone is bothering you please contact the mods and get things sorted appropriately like mature human beings.
No godmoding, metagaming or grandstanding. Your character can't be all powerful. They have weaknesses and at worst, someone can always attack your Book. You must be given OOC permission to control another character's actions. Also, if your characters do get into a fight, make sure you ask before you go horribly maiming characters or killing them, otherwise you might be asked to rewrite your tag.
Put proper warnings on posts/use lj-cuts. This isn't a smut or gore game, please be considerate of others. Put clear warnings on posts and threads that get into dangerous nsfw areas, and if characters are going to have sex make sure to move the thread to a f-locked post. Do make sure to stay within the legal guidelines of the site for character ages and activities written on site. This goes for memes as well.
Players must be 18+ to play. We would like to keep a mature audience for the game, as well as avoid any fumbly legal situations that include showing pornography to minors. We don't want to be sued, we don't want our players sued. Please wait until you are 16 or older to app a character to this game. If you are under the age of legal consent in your state/country of residency, please do not engage in smut writing within the game.
4th Walling is not allowed except during game events. 4th Walling will not be allowed in the game unless set in a specific game event. It causes disruption and confusion during game play. Characters that are famous in their canons and in others can be recognized, but do not break the 4th wall with this knowledge.
Please post your hiatus/drop. RL is always more important than RP. We won't think any less of you for needing time off for any reason or for having to leave the game altogether. Make sure you post in the hiatus and drop post so the mods know what's going on, even if you don't decide to make a post to the ooc comm. We do ask if you're going to go on hiatus to not leave people hanging on serious CR threads.
Please put your app somewhere visible, like on a post in your journal or on your profile. This helps out people who aren't familiar with your character to know what they can expect when they tag and how to get the best CR with them. Plus if your character's Book is lost and another character finds it, the player has to know what their character can figure out about your character from the text.
Remember IC actions = IC consequences! In this rpg, particular actions (yelling loudly, destroying things, etc.) will get your character a Punishment. You don't have to ask a mod to have your character receive a Punishment, or several of them, but don't forget to give them to your characters! If your character breaks one of the IC Rules, we expect them to deal with the consequences (unless metaplot dictates otherwise) and we don't mind a character receiving several Punishments in a short time period--have fun with them, no really.
Remember that IC /= OOC interactions. If you have a problem with someone outside of the game, don't drag those problems into the game. The same goes for problems that are created between characters in game. Those problems do not reflect OOC interactions. If someone is having problems because of this, please contact the mod team to help resolve the issue.
Player-run plots are a-okay, just make sure if the plot affects a lot of people to let us know! For the most part player-run plots will be fine and dandy, but do let us know if you're going to destroy a whole floor of the East Wing or something. Just remember that destroying parts of The Library will get you Punishments.
HAVE FUN! The most important rule, of course. If the game isn't fun for you, it may be a good idea to talk with players you share CR with or to think about dropping the game. We want to keep this as happyfuntimes (for the players anyway) rather than a job to stress over.
