Test Drive Meme
You are in The Central Library… anything can happen here. In fact, the possible can become actuality while you stay here. Things are always changing. Some for the better, some for the worst… it really all depends on one thing. You.
Take a look around, visit the worlds through the book portals, and slowly bring it back to life. The more you do, the better life will get. But be wary, not everything is a fun story and not everything is harmless. Sometimes you will have your life at stake and others you will simply have to enjoy your stay.
You can use RNG to pick a scenario below… or you can pick your own! Whatever delights your fancy and makes you feel at home within the walls of The Central Library.
1. Arrival – You wake up in the main hall. The reception desk is behind you and you know you heard someone whispering “Save us” in your ear… but where are you? The hall gleams and there are many doors amongst the shelves of books. It is rather huge and a walkway circles a second floor… where are you? Well… you might want to ask.
2. Market Place – The Central Library has turned the large conference room into an open gateway to a market place. It shifts and changes along with the Library, but food is always available to those living there as long as the portal is open. Step into a Parisian market of modern day, an open market of the Dark Ages, or even a trading post in the Old West. Go shopping, take a stroll… your imagination is your only limit.
3. Go Out to Dinner – There aren’t many places to go out to eat in The Central Library, in fact, it is best to keep food to the living quarters. But when you go through portals in events, you experience whole new worlds from every era and every place. Possibly you may sit in at the Mad Tea Party or even dine in the Great Hall at Hogwarts. You pick. You decide…
4. Non-Fiction Immersion – It’s raining. Inside. You’ll find that Non-fiction has a way of ruining your day to day life in the Library. Some book in the Non-fiction section has burst open letting out a monsoon of types that only gets worse as you get to that section. Find it, close it… or we all just might float away.
5. Fiction Invasion – Sometimes things slip through. Little things or big things. After all, monsters do hide in the dark corners and in some sections of the grand structure. But this time… the problem is small, small size that is. Pixies have invaded. They are troublesome things… they love to cause problems and make life a little miserable. You need to catch them before they steal you blind… and possibly cause you too much mischief. You may need a net… but please, try not to kill them.
6. Cleaning is Necessary – You are stuck here, you might want to make it home. Being in such disrepair, it needs a little love and care. I’m sure the janitor’s closets have some tools and no harm in trying to pick up books and shelve them. Just be careful… they are rather testy about where they go.
7. A posse ad esse – Anything is possible. This is your Wild Card. Have fun with it!

Sauntering across the room toward the circle, the Cat purred faintly before swatting at a pixie that flew too close. The creature giggled as it evaded the attack, but made sure not to move within range of Cat's paws.
This wasn't his normal realm but Fiction wouldn't mind if he visited Venna and Trever. "Careful, we want them trapped and placed in the book. Harming them will have consequences that none of us want to deal with."

???
"Oh. It's one of those things?" Trever asks before sighing. "I've been trying to draw up a trap for the past fifteen minutes and the daft buggers keep on ruining the circle."
As he speaks one of the said daft buggers come darting down and nearly smear the circle but Trever rather surprisingly quickly (for a human) bats it away before cursing at it in Irish.
He doesn't seem to be surprised that the Cat can talk. But then again he's got a teleporting one...

"What sort of things?" The circle catches the Cat's interest, but more for the geometry than the magic it will eventually contain. It is another type of science to him, but one that isn't as easily defined as angles and curves. "If the pixies have something else to interest them, they'll leave your circle alone."

"You know, doom falls upon us if you touch the wrong thing, open the wrong door, things like that. My mum's family keeps watch on these standing stones near her house and if something were to happen to them fairy will be able to overtake the mortal realms," He says that in a way that makes it sound like he's talking about completely and ordinary everyday things.
The circle is very scientific in the way its laid out, with bits of math equations scribbled around certain points describing how bit the 'net' should be, how thick the walls and things like that.
"Are they easily distracted by shiny objects? Or other things?"
no subject
Moving closer, the Cat studies the equations, pointing at one of the smudges. "This may be a problem." Although magic is more Fiction's expertise, there is enough similarities between it and science for the Cat to understand. "Will you remain in the circle with them or work outside of it when it's completed?"
Purring thoughtfully, he eyed one of the pixies, lashing his tail when one flew too close. "Shiny objects attract them. So do sweets but feeding them will only make them more hyperactive."
no subject
Meanwhile Trever sighs at the smudge and starts to correct it. "We've got all sorts of fey in my world. But magic isn't non-fiction for us - obviously." Tapping the circle he continues, "It's a mouse trap sort of circle. Put something they'd want in the middle of it and have them fly in. But they won't be able to get out - one way until I change it."
He then gives a short bark of a laugh. "Like one of my little cousins then. We try to keep Ceilidh away from candy, but she somehow manages to find it."
no subject
"Magic and science are similar even if some realities deny it. A grey area for the Library." That wouldn't be a problem since both could coexist. At least not for the Library. Some patrons may not approve of it. "A solid plan if you can keep them from thinking the circle is something they want. Perhaps you need bait outside the circle until you're ready to spring the trap?"
Flicking his tail in amusement, the Cat watched one of the pixies, hunkering down to pounce so that the creature would flit away. "Indeed. They'll find sweets if they are nearby but the market is the only place for those... unless you have them hidden away somewhere."
no subject
They really should be glad Mayhem isn't in the Library. He's very sweet but dumb as a rock and doesn't quite understand why he can eat somethings and not others. "Magical" books would be heavenly for him.
There's a swipe from momma cat before backing up and then jumping forward to swipe again.

Humming thoughtfully, the Cat noses at some of the books, looking for one from his area of expertise. Finding one of his liking, he pawed it open, pages flipping until something shimmers onto the page. Letting out a soft warning growl, the contents of the book stay in place but the new 'shiny' attracts the pixies. "If you work quickly, this may keep them entertained."
no subject
As soon as the Cat says to start working quickly, Trever does. He's clearly used to working under these sorts of conditions, not even asking what the Cat did or what is the book or how is he doing it. The Cat is a creature of the Library and thus knows what he's doing, Trever has to trust that.
The chalk strikes rapidly across the ground as checks his marks and finishes the missing bits.
"Okay... give me half a moment..."

The pixies seem to like the book or know better than to annoy the Non Fiction Librarian too much. They focus on the book and the Cat's lashing tail, bobbing and swooping around the feline as Trever works.
When they pixies begin to turn back to Trever, the Cat sits up, batting his front paws in the air as if trying to catch them. Giggling over the new game, they swoop around the Cat, tugging on ears and tail. Darting away from his claws they dance around him, giving the being time to work.
