The Central Library
entry
Test Drive Meme

You are in The Central Library… anything can happen here. In fact, the possible can become actuality while you stay here. Things are always changing. Some for the better, some for the worst… it really all depends on one thing. You.

Take a look around, visit the worlds through the book portals, and slowly bring it back to life. The more you do, the better life will get. But be wary, not everything is a fun story and not everything is harmless. Sometimes you will have your life at stake and others you will simply have to enjoy your stay.

You can use RNG to pick a scenario below… or you can pick your own! Whatever delights your fancy and makes you feel at home within the walls of The Central Library.

1. Arrival – You wake up in the main hall. The reception desk is behind you and you know you heard someone whispering “Save us” in your ear… but where are you? The hall gleams and there are many doors amongst the shelves of books. It is rather huge and a walkway circles a second floor… where are you? Well… you might want to ask.

2. Market Place – The Central Library has turned the large conference room into an open gateway to a market place. It shifts and changes along with the Library, but food is always available to those living there as long as the portal is open. Step into a Parisian market of modern day, an open market of the Dark Ages, or even a trading post in the Old West. Go shopping, take a stroll… your imagination is your only limit.

3. Go Out to Dinner – There aren’t many places to go out to eat in The Central Library, in fact, it is best to keep food to the living quarters. But when you go through portals in events, you experience whole new worlds from every era and every place. Possibly you may sit in at the Mad Tea Party or even dine in the Great Hall at Hogwarts. You pick. You decide…

4. Non-Fiction Immersion – It’s raining. Inside. You’ll find that Non-fiction has a way of ruining your day to day life in the Library. Some book in the Non-fiction section has burst open letting out a monsoon of types that only gets worse as you get to that section. Find it, close it… or we all just might float away.

5. Fiction Invasion – Sometimes things slip through. Little things or big things. After all, monsters do hide in the dark corners and in some sections of the grand structure. But this time… the problem is small, small size that is. Pixies have invaded. They are troublesome things… they love to cause problems and make life a little miserable. You need to catch them before they steal you blind… and possibly cause you too much mischief. You may need a net… but please, try not to kill them.

6. Cleaning is Necessary – You are stuck here, you might want to make it home. Being in such disrepair, it needs a little love and care. I’m sure the janitor’s closets have some tools and no harm in trying to pick up books and shelve them. Just be careful… they are rather testy about where they go.

7. A posse ad esse – Anything is possible. This is your Wild Card. Have fun with it!

Thranduil | Tolkien > Doriath era

1.

This was not Doriath.

The grand all was nothing like he had ever seen in Menegroth before and the elf looked around with wide eyes. He had always wished to venture outside the Girdle of Melian- to see outside the barriers of their kingdom and he had always wistfully looked at the barrier since his father would never allow him to venture outside.

But now he found himself in a strange land, alone. There was no sign of anyone he knew but Thranduil gathered his strength- he would not allow himself to show weakness even in such a situation.

4.

The rain doesn't seem to be stopping. There is the sound of splashing as he ran down the aisles, wondering if there was anywhere that was remotely dry. He was soaked in a matter of moments but the cold didn't bother him as he attempted to find any kind of shelter from the storm which was inside.

That was odd.

He wasn't watching were he was going as he splashing around another book case, nearly slipping in the process.

A familiar face. Elrond breathed a sigh of relief and stepped along quickly. "Lord Thranduil," he greeted with a barely controlled smile, though he spoke just loud enough for it to carry to the other elf's ears.

But there was something different about him, he didn't wear the armor he'd seen him in last, nor anything he could remember him wearing. So his steps slowed as he looked at him.

Thranduil stopped at the sound of his name but the elf who called out to him was a stranger. He frowned but gave a nod in greeting, still able to be polite.

"Yes- I am sorry, I do not know you," he admitted, wondering how this dark haired elf knew him. "You are not from Doriath."

His steps slowed at the utter lack of recognition, and Elrond gave him a puzzled look before the words hit. He stifled the sigh and inclined his head in return, fighting the wave of disappointment.

"No. I am recently of Lindon." It was strange, but after a pause, why not introduce himself? "Elrond, herald to my lord Gil-galad."

"I do not know that place. Are you Noldor?" Thranduil asked with a confused expression though he took a slight step back. He had never met a Noldor before but he had heard plenty of them from both Thingol and Oropher.

"Well met, Elrond. I am Thranduil of Doriath," he said politely, chin raised. If this Elrond was a Noldor, Thranduil would not do his people any disservice by showing his uneasiness.

((I'm only partially sorry))

"Hey! Careful there!" Alec called out when he saw the man slip. It's not raining around him, but he's got the ability to control rain so why should he get wet when he doesn't want to? Okay, sure he's still wet when it comes to the fact that he's slogging through puddles, but it's not raining on him.

It stops raining on Thranduil as Alec creates a bubble that reflects the water elsewhere. When he gets closer he does a bit of a double take and gives a bit of a mental sigh before asking, "Are you alright?"

The elf pulled himself up, looking up as it stopped raining on him with confusion. It seemed to be still be raining around him and he turned around, blue eyes wide. He had lived his entire life in Doriath, around Sindar so this man's appearance was entirely strange.

"I am fine," he said slowly, straightening his robes before peering at Alec with a wary gaze. Outsiders were not often received well in Thingol's court, few were allowed to pass Melian's barrier, something which still stayed with Thranduil as he looked at him. "How it it ceased to rain around us?" he asked as he tried to make sense of it.

Alec does look like a half-elf even if he is wearing jeans and a tee-shirt. He also comes off as about as threatening as a damp budgie. And considering the situation he is also as damp as a damp budgie.

"That's good. Not the sort of place you want to slip and fall, is it?" Alec said and peered up at the ceiling. "As for the rain, I'm doing it."

The Cat had waited to see how their newest patron had settled before making his presence known. Some of the beings who had been brought to the Library had not taken kindly to their new home. But Thranduil seemed more curious than angry, a trait that the Cat approved of.

Moving out of the shadows, the black feline sauntered closer, purring quietly as he drew near. Eventually, he jumped onto one of the shelves so he was closer to eye level for Thranduil. Tipping his head to one side, he studied the being for a moment before speaking. "Welcome to the Library. I will answer some of your questions, but I may not be able to answer them all."
