The Central Library
entry
Test Drive Meme

You are in The Central Library… anything can happen here. In fact, the possible can become actuality while you stay here. Things are always changing. Some for the better, some for the worst… it really all depends on one thing. You.

Take a look around, visit the worlds through the book portals, and slowly bring it back to life. The more you do, the better life will get. But be wary, not everything is a fun story and not everything is harmless. Sometimes you will have your life at stake and others you will simply have to enjoy your stay.

You can use RNG to pick a scenario below… or you can pick your own! Whatever delights your fancy and makes you feel at home within the walls of The Central Library.

1. Arrival – You wake up in the main hall. The reception desk is behind you and you know you heard someone whispering “Save us” in your ear… but where are you? The hall gleams and there are many doors amongst the shelves of books. It is rather huge and a walkway circles a second floor… where are you? Well… you might want to ask.

2. Market Place – The Central Library has turned the large conference room into an open gateway to a market place. It shifts and changes along with the Library, but food is always available to those living there as long as the portal is open. Step into a Parisian market of modern day, an open market of the Dark Ages, or even a trading post in the Old West. Go shopping, take a stroll… your imagination is your only limit.

3. Go Out to Dinner – There aren’t many places to go out to eat in The Central Library, in fact, it is best to keep food to the living quarters. But when you go through portals in events, you experience whole new worlds from every era and every place. Possibly you may sit in at the Mad Tea Party or even dine in the Great Hall at Hogwarts. You pick. You decide…

4. Non-Fiction Immersion – It’s raining. Inside. You’ll find that Non-fiction has a way of ruining your day to day life in the Library. Some book in the Non-fiction section has burst open letting out a monsoon of types that only gets worse as you get to that section. Find it, close it… or we all just might float away.

5. Fiction Invasion – Sometimes things slip through. Little things or big things. After all, monsters do hide in the dark corners and in some sections of the grand structure. But this time… the problem is small, small size that is. Pixies have invaded. They are troublesome things… they love to cause problems and make life a little miserable. You need to catch them before they steal you blind… and possibly cause you too much mischief. You may need a net… but please, try not to kill them.

6. Cleaning is Necessary – You are stuck here, you might want to make it home. Being in such disrepair, it needs a little love and care. I’m sure the janitor’s closets have some tools and no harm in trying to pick up books and shelve them. Just be careful… they are rather testy about where they go.

7. A posse ad esse – Anything is possible. This is your Wild Card. Have fun with it!

This Test Drive is Closed.  A new Test Drive will be posted soon.

Save us...

A whisper. A call. A prayer.

This place smells of things far older than starships. There's wood and varnish. There are gears somewhere with some kind of oil. There's some sort of heavenly melange of ink with autumn leaves, akdaro spice from the Empire, and what the humans call "vanilla."

Jules blinked her hazel eyes once and then once more.

"So, it finally happened," she says with a kind of thick, tired defeat as she pulls herself into a sitting position. "This is what happens when you live to see the end of time." She pauses and takes in the sound of some distant clockwork device. "It's nicer than I thought it would be," Jules finally admits.

Waking up surrounded by books isn't a new experience. He was prone to falling asleep while reading. In his father's library. His own growing library. Never in a public library. So, at first, the scent of books is comforting. But then he hears a voice, a whisper, and everything is suddenly not comforting. Instantly aware this is not his home even before he's sat fully up and seen with his own eyes the expansive library.

Not the worst place to find himself.

Maybe he's dreaming. He's still wearing his pajamas so it is possible.

"Hello?"

The obvious place to get answers would be the reception desk, but Sebastian has always been drawn to books. Even before he could read--and that hadn't taken him long to learn. If this is a dream then it's one he's had a hundred times before.

Nonfiction Immersion mixed with Arrival

In the midst of the rain and water a man appears passed out against one of the shelves. His graying hair is soaked and he is shirtless. The only clothing currently on his person is a pair of ragged pants that are just as soaked as he is. He might need a little help people please.

[Arrival]

[Hermione wakes up holding something resembling a bookmark in her hand. Her senses are immediately on alert however, and she sits up suddenly clutching the bookmark in her hand. The only thing she saw when she woke up was books so many Books. Hermione was in love. She flipped the bookmark over and it flickered to life. A rumpled, but smartly dressed young woman with long brown hair. She is wearing a touch of make-up but it looks very natural. ]

Well. This is most certainly not what I was expecting to do today. In fact, I was expected to be in the Americas today meeting with the Minster of Magic. [She looks slightly perturbed at the sudden change in plan. She was one that was all about plans, and schedules. ]

I suppose though, there are worse places to be. In fact this is exactly the place I would have chosen. [She looks absolutely delighted at this. ]

My name is Hermione Granger, and can someone please tell me why I am surrounded by books.

[Cleaning is necessary]

There was something that everyone who knew Hermione knew. She loves books. It wasn't just a casual passing love, it was a love that had started out as a seed at birth, and slowly blossomed into a beautiful flower. Hermione was never without a book on her. She loved to read all kinds of things, in all kinds of languages. If she didn't know the language of a book that she was interested in, she simply learned it.

Some called her a know it all, but that was mainly when she was younger. Over the years she had grown and matured, not feeling the need to prove herself so very much. It was really quite a relief to be completely honest. There were days when she missed Ron and Harry, but most days she was happy and content with her life.
Put her in a room full of books, and she’s in love, and not just a room, but a whole library. No matter what she had been through in her life, there was nothing more important to her than books. That’s why she is exhibits, an almost reverence as she picked up the book, with her gloved hand, wiping the cloth along it ever so softly.

(Warning OOTS characters canonically fourth wall themselves.)
V arrived, scowling. Where had Zz'Tri zapped them to this time? Them? Oh yes, on V's shoulder was a small black raven, Blackwing. A class feature with a name.

Vaarsuvius was an elf wearing robes whose gender was not immediately obvious. What was obvious was that the elf was disoriented. "Blackwing, do my keen elven senses deceive me, or do we appear to be in a library?"

The Raven flew around before landing. "I got the same roll on my spot check."

"Fascinating. If this is the Linear Guild's idea of an attack, they are clearly less intelligent than any of us could have imagined, and such a possibility boggles even a mind as impressive as my own."

"Still if the past is anything to go by, we have about three weeks, or a day, before Sir Greenhilt and Miss Starshine find a way to bring us back. We shall be needed. Therefore we should use the time as efficiently as possible. Shall we search for arcane tomes?"

"What else would we - "

"The question was rhetorical. You look to the left, Blackwing, I shall look to the right." That said, V headed to the shelves on the right.

The blond pushed himself off the floor and looked around wide eyed at all the books.

"Wow...." he said, seeming a bit awed.

[Arrival]

[Natasha was certainly a woman not unfamiliar with technology, but this thing she was staring at. She new what it was of course, the Russian symbol for friendship, loyalty, and love, but she had no idea what it did. She started tracing the lines, and the damn thing came to life.]

Well, I'll be damned. Please tell me this isn't another Ultron induced kidnapping. [she doesn't look pleased to be here at all. She sucks in a resigned breath]

I'm supposed to be training. [She needs to focus on something other than her broken heart okay?]

Anyone have a clue how to get home?

[3]

Once Natasha figured out that she was not getting home, she just couldn't sit there and do nothing, so she decided to explore a little. She had almost given up when she spotted something out of the corner of her eye. she reached for weapons, realizing she didn't have them, groaned and swore in russian.

She opened the door, and found herself in what looked like a hall of sorts. There were long tables, and candles, and stars on the ceiling.

He could hear Glinda stating he stepped out to get her water, before this. He adores her deeply, but there's still a large part of him that wonders just how Glinda got so damn good at lying, and easily covering things up.

Such was Oz, wasn't it? Not exactly how he'd expected to spend his life. He tells himself he's content--he always has. He's perfect. She's perfect. Together, they're perfect. Elphaba is safe.

So why is he, deep down, a little excited about this prospect?

"Hey," And why not be friendly to the other people here? He taps someone on the shoulder, all bright smiles and charming mannerisms. "Where's the best place to go in here if you want to dance?"

(Arrival)
"Save us..." He heard the call, but wasn't sure where it came from. A whisper. So many whispers in his head though. It was hard to tell sometimes if it was real or not. He wasn't intending to help anyone. That wasn't his mission. He didn't have a mission anymore. He needed to stay away from people.

But the call for help was on the wind again, and he couldn't help himself. There was something about the whispers that called to him, so when he ended up at the Library desk he looked a little confused to say the least. He was dressed in a black hooded sweater over his black fitted shirt and black cargo pants (he'd abandoned the heavy uniform some time ago). His hair was in his face and his hood was up, keeping him somewhat hidden, but he glanced around the space, curious.

Who had called for help? He couldn't even help himself let alone others, but he intended to look anyhow.

(Non-Fiction Immersion)
He understands the mission now. He understands he has to help by fixing this place. It might be good for him, to get his mind back to him. Maybe by giving help in this place he won't hurt anyone. He's a monster after all, all those people he's hurt and killed. The arm was a monster, something he didn't want anymore, but it came in handy right now.

Right now he pushed along a row of books, metal hand gripping a shelf as he wades through water, pushing past floating books. It's a flood of water, more then most people can handle. Others might get hurt. He never used to care about that, did he (somewhere inside he says yes, he did care, but he can't remember when).

The closer he gets to the book the more water there seems to be, but he intends to fight it, and close it to help others.

(Start One yourself!)
Anything and anywhere you want to start, let's do it.

-=A: Arrival=-
"Doctor?" her accent was strong as she called curiously for her friend. Where had he gone. Or better yet, where had SHE gone? One moment she was wandering around the TARDIS and the next she found herself in the library, but it didn't seem like the one she knew. This wasn't the right one she had seen time and time again hidden on the TARDIS itself.

Following a call for help she of course was curious and said yes, looking for who might be calling. That was how she found herself here. A curious looking woman in a nice red and black jumper she wandered the front hall, looking around and looking for her friend. "Curious..."

-=B: Market Place=-
Clara loved market places! it was one of the first places that Doctor had taken her and it was such a fond memory. At the moment she was wandering a Parisian market of modern day, with it's farmers market like stands and colorful signs. Fruits and breads and things that she knew, and some others. It wasn't like the markets she and the Doctor had hit, but it was fancy enough for her needs.

She wandered, buying a few fruits and browsing, grinning good naturally through the market. By time she was done she had something to drink and was seated near the portal, just soaking up the end of the day market sales and chatter, grinning while she watched people start to close up. She would go back through the portal soon, but for now she was going to enjoy the peace that this brought her.

-=C: Go Out to Dinner=-
"Hogwarts?! Are you kidding me?" Clara blurted out suddenly as she spun around at the main gates of the fictional school. She heard they would go other places, in other worlds (and that wasn't NEW to her) but to FICTIONAL places? Sure, she had met Robin Hood and Santa, both thought to be fictional, but she believed in those things. This? This was from a book. Several books. Books she had read the kids a number of times.

And here she was as giddy as a school girl. At least she should fit in, for the most part. She knew the spell names and character names and what not, but could this really be real? Who ever she was with now, maybe she could convince them to the Great Hall for a meal. If the Doctor was here, he'd made a perfect professor. How amazing would that be?

In truth, she couldn't contain how amazing this entire adventure was turning out to be. Maybe she can barrow a wand--oh no, Maybe she was Muggle? That would blow. She wasn't sure she wanted to test that out. "Looks like it's close to dinner time. Want to find a seat?"

Annie Sawyer | Being Human

Arrival

One minute she had been happy. Everything had been okay; Mitchell had rescued her and they were all back together and everything was going to be perfect again.

What Annie had expected was to suddenly find herself in a strange place with a strange voice whispering in her ear. It sent a bit of panic through the ghost and she stumbled backwards as she reached out blindly to steady herself, grabbing the reception desk as she clutched at the sweater she was wearing with her other hand.

It was so quiet, far more quiet than some of the graveyards she had been in even.

"M-Mitchell? George? Nina?" she called out as she pressed close to the desk, looking around for any signs of her housemates--of her friends. They had to be here right? Or had she--

Had she been pulled back through the door?

She could feel her form wavering as she panicked, the ghost closing her eyes as she tried to steady herself, whispering to herself that everything was going to be okay.

Non-Fiction

Once she had gotten adjusted, or as adjusted as she could considering she had learned she was stuck in this place without any of her friends, Annie had started to wander. She was use to wandering, taking long walks whenever the others were out and just exploring. Sometimes she'd socialize and other times her presence would go ignored but it was always peaceful.

She continues wandering through the different sections, narrowly missing the pixies as she heads into Non-Fiction instead and she immediately finds herself in the midst of a downpour.

The ghost frowns softly, adjusting her sweater wrap so it's over her head then wrapping her arms around herself as the downpour gets even worse the further she walks.

"Well this is just great."

Elizabeth was used to being confined and held against her will. It didn't mean that she liked it, but there were worse things than being stuck in a library.

The only real problems was that the library was a mess. So she tied her hair back with a kerchief, found the janitor's closet, and began putting trash into bags. It was a slow process, since every book caught her eye, but she worked steadily, picking up debris from goodness only knew what. Close to the non-fiction section the floor was wet so she went back to get a mop and bucket. As she went she hummed and sang under her breath. This was good, honest work and she was glad of it.

The Doctor whistled a tuneless melody as he walked through the main hall of the Library. He'd seen a library bigger then then this one. Hell Donna had been downloaded into one...he still felt awful about that. Still this library had something he liked much better then the other one. It felt lived in, loved and he liked that feeling.

There was only one thing missing. Well one person anyway. He missed Clara and decided it was time to see if she was hear somewhere. "Clara," he said grumpily, "where have you gotten to now."

River Song | OTA - arrival

She had been in the Library. Well, she has been in the computer system, with Cal. In a world where they could create whatever they wanted by wanting it enough. She had been raising the children Donna Nobel left behind, when the Doctor brought her back out. Not that he could have brought River back out.

She missed him. She missed traveling through time and space, she missed her parents, though it had been a long time since she had seen them. She missed truly being out in the world, a living breathing part of it.

So, having some time to herself, she had outfitted herself as she used to be, as she wished she was, the tight pants, the loose jacket with hidden pockets over a top. the gun on one hip, her journal, her vortex manipulator, A few lipsticks of various sorts hidden in her boot, along with another weapon. A black sharpie on a cord around her neck. She had been fluffing her hair when suddenly she was surrounded by books, stacks. Shelves. A Library. The Library. And someone whispering "Save us".

Because that wasn't enough to get River. Her pistol came out, but there was nothing she could do about the vashta nerada with a gun. She needed lights, and lots of them. She didn't know how she wound up back out in the Library, but if there were people here who needed help, she'd help.

Okay this was weird. Even compared to the normal brand of weird, this was weird. On the one hand, he was in a library. This may as well be Heaven for him. But on the other hand...

"How the heck did I get here?!" he looked around, "Leo? Raph? Mikey? Guys?"

Okay, now is not the time for panic. He was in a library and had no idea how when the last thing that he was doing was examining the chemicals that Raph had earlier brought before they had to go save Casey's butt from Shredder. He rolled his eyes thinking back to it, what a hardhead. But there was only one appropriate course of action to do right now: find out what the shell is going on.

[Henry looked around in confusion. Something wasn't right. He had just jumped off a cliff with a lost boy, and suddenly he was here. Where is here though. He felt around his pockets and felt a miniaturized version of the book. When he touched it it popped to life. ]

Something is just not right. This wasn't supposed to happen. [ Henry appears to be a bit agitated because what 12-year old wouldn't be when faced with a strange situation. ]

My Mom's were supposed to break the curse... again.... and we were supposed be happy. We were going to the Enchanted Forest. Mom? Neal?.... anyone?

Where am I?

[Marketplace]
Henry wandered out of the Library proper, and into what looked like a scene from the movie Alladin. He couldn't help the impish grin that formed on his face as he looked around. He needed to find people he knew.... sure... but this was so.... cool. A little detour couldn't hurt right?

Save us. The words echo in his ears as he regains awareness. Saving people is Emma's job. She even saved the Lost Boys when none of them thought they needed saving. Is that who's appealing to anyone who's listening now? The curse is sending everyone back to where they came from. What does that mean for the Lost Boys? Can he save them now?

He opens his eyes to look around him. This is definitely not right. It's not the Enchanted Forest, which is where the curse was supposed to send him. It sent him here alone, too. None of the others are here. Did something go wrong with it? This looks like a library. It could be Storybrooke's library, but the town was supposed to be erased by the curse being removed.

So just where is he?

He sits up slowly, looking around him. He doesn't even see anyone else here.

"Hello? Is anyone here?" His words echo around him in the open space.

It only takes a few seconds and the whispered words to rouse Emma. She remembers Regina's final words; the promise of good memories instead of an absence of completely. She remembers getting into her Bug with Henry, and the ache of looking in her rear view mirror at her parents, Neal, Killian and knowing in a few short moments, the last year and a half would be gone. But even before the Savior opens her eyes, she realises something..

She remembers. Everything.

Blinking slowly, Emma gives herself a second to focus on the front of the reception desk and then blearily to the rest of her surroundings; none of it looking familiar as she pushed to her feet.

Something wrong had to have happened. The curse? Zelena stopping them before they crossed the town line? Whatever it was, Emma didn't have a very good feeling.

"Henry?" she calls out, eyes darting from one corner to the next as panic started to set in. "Henry, where are you?"

"Dragon?"

Jace had no idea where he was or how he'd gotten here, but that wasn't as important as a dragon. Dragon. At least it looked like a dragon. About the size of a large dog with wings. Or some strange demon he'd never seen before made to look like a dragon. It was standing on a stack of books as if it were protecting it and the only reason he'd come down this way was because of the flames.

Being unarmed didn't matter, of course. He'd been unarmed before and he'd still kicked Sebastian's ass.

All he had to do was not get burned.

Which, he decided, ducking between two bookshelves, might not be as easy as he'd thought.
